What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy, or Homeopathic Medicine, is the practice of medicine that embraces a holistic, natural approach to the treatment of the sick. Homeopathy treats the person as a whole, rather than focusing on the disease. Homeopathy is natural because its remedies are produced according to the U.S. FDA-recognized Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States from natural sources, whether vegetable, mineral, or animal in nature.
Homeopathy applies principles known from antiquity to engage the innate healing mechanisms within an individual, gently restoring balance and health. The practice of homeopathy is a blend of art and science, knowledge and perception.
WHERE DO HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES COME FROM?
Minerals, plants and their extracts, and a variety of animal sources provide the thousands of remedies respectfully obtained and used in homeopathic healing. The substance is specially prepared in an FDA-regulated homeopathic pharmacy through a series of dilutions. After each dilution the mixture is vigorously agitated in a machine that delivers a calibrated amount of shaking. This is called succussion. This process imprints a unique energetic pattern from the medicinal substance throughout the solution of water. This is called potentization. The end product contains no molecules of the original substance, but does carry a unique energetic imprint specific to the original plant, mineral or animal. The resultant remedy is capable of eliminating, in the person who suffers from them, symptoms similar to those produced in the proving.
HOW DOES HOMEOPATHY WORK?
The basic tenet underlying the homeopathic method is that like cures like. For the last 200 years, since the founding of classical homeopathic practices by Samuel Hahnemann, a respected German physician, meticulous studies called “provings” have been conducted to determine the effects of natural substances in healthy volunteers.
In recent years, Nobel Prize -winning research in the field of quantum physics is shedding light on on how it works: until recently, we could be sure that it worked but with no explanation of the underlying mechanisms.
There are two main categories of treatment in Homeopathic Medicine; i.e., acute and chronic. Acute treatment is for illness of recent onset; it may be self-limited (for example, the common cold), or it may progress if not treated (for example, pneumonia). In such an illness the body might overcome the illness, a cold for example, sooner or later, but the appropriate medicine gently stimulates the body to recover more quickly and efficiently.
Chronic or constitutional treatment is the other main category of treatment. A chronic disease is long standing or a recurrent health problem. The length of treatment and the challenge to achieve positive results is affected by many factors, including the nature of the problem, the early health history, the family medical history, the previous treatment, and the person’s inherent constitutional strength. The goal is to help the person to return to a state of well-being through individualized homeopathic treatment.
IS HOMEOPATHY SAFE?
Homeopathic remedies are safe, non-toxic, have no side effects, and are available without prescription. They are sustainably prepared and humanely procured, and are inexpensive to produce and purchase. They never lose their effectiveness if stored correctly.
Homeopathy is practiced all over the world, and is becoming more popular. Although the principles underlying the homeopathic method are simple, the art is less so, and requires expertise in case-taking and familiarity with the vast body of homeopathic knowledge.
