I've been there too...
I am lucky that I grew up in a holistic practitioner family. My father, grandfather and uncle are/were Chiropractors. I learned early on how the body can heal itself and the importance of using holistic healthcare to help maintain and address imbalances in our health and wellness.
A few of years ago I had taken a job in the corporate world that I enjoyed and loved. But as with many jobs sometimes dynamics change and environments can become stressful. When we push through stress and ignore the stress signals it can have a big impact on our health and wellness.
I unfortunately stayed so busy working additional hours to meet deadlines and fulfill my duties along with other duties I picked up along the way to help the team I started ignoring all the stress signs. I pushed myself and my health moved into the danger zone. I remember sitting on my couch on a Friday night while my husband was sleeping upstairs when my heart started palpitating, I felt excruciating pain in my neck, and noticed a large lump on my neck. I waited until Monday and took a visit to quick care. I was then sent for a visit to the emergency room where an ultrasound, CT Scan and visit with the doctors discovered a nodule and bleeding in my thyroid. I was referred out to a surgical thyroid specialist where she recommended having a surgical biopsy. She explained that it was difficult for her to do an ultrasound needle biopsy because of all of the fluid that was in my thyroid. During surgery they would do the biopsy. She said if they found any irregularities with my thyroid they would remove half of my thyroid right there, and if they found any cancerous cells they would remove my entire thyroid. As you can imagine the thought of being under while doctors cut me open and decide the fate of my thyroid didn't go well. The doctor said that I could wait and see; and we could follow up in 3 months with no major concerns. I decided to go for a second opinion with a local endocrinologist. Despite the long wait I went ahead and scheduled the appointment.
In the meantime I worked on decreasing my stress and started working with herbs to treat my thyroid issues. Chronic stress and extreme stress at my job had pushed my Thyroid over the edge. Using natural and holistic treatments I was able to reverse my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis disease. I was reminded then how truly scary and frustrating traditional medicine can be sometimes and how important it is to make time to take care of yourself.
I decided it was time to go back to my roots and provide a much needed service.
